Surveys carried out on areas of archaeological interest can support analyses of zones in which to carry out digs, providing additional evidence to that obtained by traditional methods.

The DTMs which are derived in this way can also be used to reconstruct the paleo-geographic evolution of a site. The diachronic evolution of an area can be visualised and interpreted by integrating high resolution remotely sensed data into a GIS system.
