Airborne Laser scanning allows detailed surveys of vast areas to be carried out quickly and cheaply, even during or immediately after flooding.
In particular, the main morphological changes caused by flooding can be verified and analysed with aerial photographs and a comparison between the laser-altimetrics and orthophotos carried out before and after
a flood.
It is also possible to accurately estimate the volume of sediment moved by floods and extract data
which can determine the stability of an area.
The DTM provides basic information which is necessary to manage emergency situations and to study the flow of water along a river basin which has been affected by these events.
