The data can be used to establish the plano-altimetric state and geometric characteristics of road networks and the presence of man made structures, even in wooded areas.
Aerial surveys can quickly cover vast distances, regardless of traffic conditions.
They can also be carried out at night and cover large areas adjacent to the main road.

The DTM obtained from laser-scanner data is used to produce very high spatial resolution (<15cm) digital orthophotos which also show information on road markings and signs.
Using laser-scans provides up-to-date information which is manageable in a GIS and can be integrated with vectors data and high resolution digital orthophotos.
